David Jenkins was born in Kansas where his father was stationed with the United States Air Force. The family moved to Newport News just a few years later in 1964. While in high school, David began his interest in public service, as the last page for Congressman Thomas Downing (D) before he retired. Dave became the first in his family to graduate from college, with a degree from the College of William and Mary in 1982. After college, Dave served as an Army Medical Service Corps officer in West Germany in the 1980’s. He continued his service until returning from Desert Storm. After leaving the military, he remained in Texas where he had been stationed and his wife, also a Desert Storm veteran, remained on active duty for several years. Dave found his passion in home sales in Waco, Texas, helping families achieve the American dream of home ownership. Four years ago, Dave and his wife decided to come home to Newport News.
